GulfRun Project
So my brother signed up to drive in the upcoming GulfRun and I will be going to Bahrain as well! We will both be traveling by car! I will be driving my Land Cruiser to Bahrain and he will be accompanying me through the 5-6 hours trip! Most of you might be asking why 5-6 hours! Well we will be towing my brother’s spare parts (spare tires, brakes, oil, gasoline, etc …) and so we won’t be driving fast and we might be held up at the border!
My brother wanted to tow the parts all along and I thought he was going to get one of those flat beds that people use to tow the ATVs (like the one below!). He thought about it and decided against it after my uncle gave him the idea of towing the bed of a pick up truck!
After getting the idea of using the bed of a pick up truck, my brother and I went to the scrap yard and hunted down an old General Motors pick up truck! I did not take pics of the actual truck but you will find a pic of a truck similar to the one we got!
The different between the truck above and the one we found was the color, the bed had a cover on it which would help with piling things up inside, and the fact that the truck we found doesn’t run! Below you will find pictures of other trucks and I will explain what would happen to the one we are working on! The pictures on the left would be the original pictures while the one on the right would be the ones I edited to point out something in order to mention the differences.
When we bought the truck is had everything on it except the front axle, which we didn’t need anyways. We asked the scrap yard worker to dismantle the front end cause all we wanted was the truck bed and the real axle as shown on the picture with the black box around it.
The pic above shows the side of a yellow truck and I boxed off a portion of that truck since the one we bought had containers with built in faucets. There is one on either side and so we are going to have one container for water while the other will hold extra gasoline.
The back of the truck is identical to this orange one above except for the fact that there’s a custom made tool box on the inside where the black square is.
I tried to find a pic to show how the truck bed is covered up but there aren’t any online what has the same bed cover! So I tried to shade off the part that was covered off but you will see the actual thing when I take a pic of it and put it up on the next post!
The actual thing is at the ironworker getting it’s chassis molded into something that would look like the front of the trailer in the first pic. I hope this post wasn’t too confusing, but when the project comes along I will take a few pics and post an update!

Very nice! I know exactly what you guys are doing! We did something like that last year, with an old dodge which has a really good rear axle, worked out really nice!
We used Line-X for the bed to keep things from sliding around and protecting the bed! Worked great!

Marzouq : The Line-X idea is great but did you do it yourself or had someone apply the Line-X? Got any pics of your Dodge?
